Anibal E. Vercesi

The major topics of study in our laboratory are: participation of mitochondria in cellular calcium homeostasis processes and their relationships to the mechanisms of life and death in cells; how to control the formation of reactive oxygen by the mitochondria and the mechanisms by which these radicals partake in signaling processes in both metabolic pathways and disease processes; mechanisms of heat generation by mitochondria and its possible physiological implications.
