We try to understand the crosstalk between the signaling pathways that control the cellular metabolism and the inflammatory response. We are also interested in how the energy metabolism may control cell proliferation and differentiation. PGC-1 family of trancription coactivators are at the center of these interactions and are the main targets of our studies, both experimental and clinical. Our work with PGS-1 We focus our attention on the role of the PGC-1 family of transcritpion coactivators and how they control both the cell energy homeostasis and can interfere with the inflammatory response. Therefore, we are investigating:
- The role of PGC-1s in the acute inflammatory response;
- The role of PGC-1s in the differentiation of stem cells;
- The role of PGC-1s in the proliferation of tumor and non-tumor cells; and
- How obese patients respond to acute severe infections.
